While New Jersey may be the 47th smallest state in the US, its neighborhoods are bustling as the real estate market trends in an overall positive direction. The shoreline state is filled with picturesque neighborhoods with an array of backdrops for almost every desired lifestyle. Some neighborhoods offer great access for people commuting to New York, others are quiet, shoreline residences for those who want an escape from the city. Either way it’s possible to find the ideal neighborhood in New Jersey.

Since New Jersey is a hub for urban living Movoto Real Estate believes it’s about time for the top five up-and-coming neighborhoods to be highlighted (in no particular order).

Bloomfield NJ

Bloomfield, NJ
Most people in New Jersey know of Montclair’s beauty, but does its next-door neighbor, Bloomfield ring a bell? If not, take note. Even though this town doesn’t have trendy shopping and cafés similar to Montclair you can purchase a Montclair-esque home for a steal. The median list price in Bloomfield is $264,000 compared to $579.000 in Montclair. On a side note it only takes 15 minutes to commute to the New York Penn Station via train. Commuters rejoice!

Maplewood NJ

Maplewood, NJ
Looking for a great neighborhood to raise a family? Maplewood may be the solution. This neighborhood has it all: low crime rates, young professionals, affordable single-family homes, and great schools all the way up to high school. In addition, it’s possible to keep families entertained year-round with an assortment of community events that are offered. The median listing price for a Maplewood residence is $379,000. Currently, there are a variety of housing types and its possible to find newer construction as well.

Weymouth NJ

Weymouth, NJ
Weymouth is a quiet getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Weekends can be spent enjoying a diversity of outdoor activities from kayaking on Lake Lenape to fishing on Klingener Pier. However, it’s not the activities or small town feel that puts Weymouth on the top five list. What stands out most about this up and coming neighborhood is that the median list price of $465,000 is a 158% increase from last year!

North Wildwood NJ

North Wildwood, NJ
Take a stroll along the boardwalk then dig your toes in the sand of one of New Jersey’s best beaches, North Wildwood. Over the past six months the median listing price in North Wildwood increased by 22%, which is a good indicator of new growth and improvement in the market. Today, the median list price in this beachside neighborhood is a manageable $180,000 although this may mean settling for a condo or townhouse.

Leonia, NJ
Pre-World War II architecture still remains in the historical and charming Leonia borough. Those looking for cultural activities would most likely enjoy this neighborhood, which takes pride in having the oldest operating theatre troupe. Young families might also appreciate the residential environment that Leonia offers with an emphasis on education. Leonia makes the top five up and coming neighborhoods due to its 15% increase in the median list price, bringing it to $459,900.
